Knoxville's power comes from KUB. Check the KUB outage map or app, or call 865-524-2911, 24 hours a day. Here is how KUB decides what to fix first.

Last checked Oct. 17, 2026. Facts come from the Knoxville Utilities Board’s Outage Center, Power Outage Guide and order of restoration pages.

Electricity in Knoxville comes from the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB), which also supplies the city’s water, wastewater and natural gas. If your power goes out, check the KUB outage map or the KUB mobile app, or call 865-524-2911, which is answered 24 hours a day for outages and other emergencies.

Who to call

  • Power outage or emergency: KUB, 865-524-2911, 24 hours
  • Outage map and report form: kub.org/outage-center and report an outage
  • Downed line, fire or injury: 911 first, then KUB
  • Billing and service orders: KUB customer service, 865-524-2911, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays
  • Fallen tree on a city street: Knoxville 311, 865-215-4311

Checking and reporting an outage

KUB says its system reports most electric outages automatically, so you may not need to call. To confirm KUB knows about yours:

  1. Open the outage map or the KUB mobile app and find your address.
  2. If your outage is not shown, report it online, in the app or by calling 865-524-2911.
  3. Sign up for KUB’s outage notifications to get alerts and restoration updates.

The map’s details view lists customers without power by county and ZIP code across KUB’s service area; its county list covers Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Sevier and Union counties.

Who gets power back first

KUB restores power in this order:

Step What KUB repairs Map markers
1 Critical loads: hospitals, communications systems, water and wastewater pump stations and other services vital to public welfare Any color
2 Transmission lines, the backbone of the system, serving the most customers Red
3 Substation equipment that can affect large numbers of customers Usually red, sometimes purple
4 Distribution lines serving subdivisions, large housing areas and commercial areas Purple, green and orange
5 Service lines and transformers serving small groups of customers Orange and black
6 Service lines and transformers serving individual customers

So after a big storm, a single house with a broken service line can wait longest even if it is near a repaired main line. If your neighbors have power and you do not, report it again: you may be a separate, single-customer outage.

Planned outages

Some construction work requires KUB to turn power off. KUB notifies affected customers of a planned outage by direct mail, and customers can enroll in notifications for planned work.

Staying safe

  • Downed lines: stay well away, keep children and pets back and call 911.
  • Generators: run them outdoors, away from windows, never in a garage. Do not plug a generator into a house circuit; it can send power back down the line and injure line crews.
  • Food: keep the refrigerator and freezer closed as much as you can.
  • Medical equipment: if someone in your home relies on powered medical equipment, make a backup plan before storm season.

Gas and water problems

KUB also runs Knoxville’s natural gas, water and sewer systems. Report a gas leak from a safe distance outside the building by calling 911 and KUB at 865-524-2911. Report a water main break or sewer overflow to KUB on the same number.

What this means for you

  • Save 865-524-2911 in your phone and download the KUB app now, before the next storm.
  • In a long outage, check the restoration estimates on the map instead of calling repeatedly.
